Counterfeit Detector
Bishop
Why does my unit keep rejecting bills or showing errors?
To ensure top performance, we have listed the following steps on proper use of the Kolbri Bishop:
- Avoid inserting a bill that is:
- Ensure the bill is flat and corners are not folded (the Bishop checks the size of a bill and may reject a bill that is folded or has folded corners).
- Insert the bill face up, all the way to the left side and straight, exactly as shown.
How do I clean and maintain my unit?
Regular maintenance will ensure accurate operation of the unit and will prolong its service life. Use an air duster to remove dust from the sensors. Insert approximately ¹/4 of an inch of the duster nozzle through the front bill insertion slot to blow away any debris that may have accumulated inside the unit.
Do not insert the nozzle more than ¹/4 of an inch into the unit as it may damage the sensor mechanisms inside the Kolibri Bishop unit.
What does this error code mean?
Because of the printing method used by the US Mint, bills are not exactly identical. This will occasionally cause a bill to not to be recognized on the first run in an automatic detector. This may also occur if a bill is inserted with even a slight deviation from the required pathway. The Kolibri Bishop is an advanced machine and will never accept a counterfeit bill. If it recognizes a bill after the second or third attempt, you can be assured that the bill is genuine.
Several factors can cause the Kolibri Bishop to not recognize a genuine bill:
Overly wrinkled, overly creased and overly worn bills
A physical shock
A sudden change in temperature or humidity
Extended period of non-use
If the Bishop consistently refuses to recognize genuine bills, turn the unit off, unplug it from the wall. Reinsert the plug and turn the machine on to perform a reset.

EE5
1/2 Multi-Spectrum Abnormal
We recommend passing a bill through the detector a least 3 times with the proper orientation and insertion method according to section 2.3 “authenticating a bill” of the user manual prior to rejecting the note as suspected or counterfeit. If error message continues authentic bills, conduct proper cleaning maintenance on the machine.
EE6
Frontage Reflex Abnormal
We recommend passing a bill through the detector a least 3 times with the proper orientation and insertion method according to section 2.3 “authenticating a bill” of the user manual prior to rejecting the note as suspected or counterfeit. If error message continues authentic bills, conduct proper cleaning maintenance on the machine.
EE7
Infrared Paper, Overlapping
We recommend passing a bill through the detector a least 3 times with the proper orientation and insertion method according to section 2.3 “authenticating a bill” of the user manual prior to rejecting the note as suspected or counterfeit. If error message continues authentic bills, conduct proper cleaning maintenance on the machine.
EE8
Width Abnormal
We recommend passing a bill through the detector a least 3 times with the proper orientation and insertion method according to section 2.3 “authenticating a bill” of the user manual prior to rejecting the note as suspected or counterfeit. If error message continues authentic bills, conduct proper cleaning maintenance on the machine.

Bill Loading Guide
To maintain optimal performance for the Kolibri Bishop, follow these steps for proper bill loading:
Avoid inserting damaged bills, including those that are torn, heavily worn, crumpled, covered with adhesive tape, or stapled. Ensure the bill is flat with no folded corners, as the Bishop can recognize the size of the bill and may reject folded or creased bills. Proper bill placement should be face-up, aligned to the left, and in the correct orientation.
Several factors may cause the Kolibri Bishop to fail in recognizing a genuine bill or result in a false reject. These include inserting a bill in the wrong orientation, using bills that are overly wrinkled, creased, or worn, knocking over or dropping the unit, sudden changes in temperature or humidity, extended periods of non-use, and lack of maintenance.
If the Bishop consistently rejects genuine bills, turn off the unit and unplug it. Use an air duster to clean the sensors, as described in the user manual, then reinsert the plug and turn the machine back on.
Note: Due to the printing method used by the US Mint and the natural deterioration of currency, bills are not exactly identical. Occasionally, a bill may not be recognized on the first attempt. If it is recognized after the second or third attempt, you can be assured the bill is genuine.
Cleaning Procedure
Dirty sensors can affect the performance of the Kolibri Bishop, leading to genuine bills being rejected. Regular maintenance is recommended to keep the unit in top condition and extend its service life.
To clean the Kolibri Bishop, you will need a can of compressed air.
Steps:
- Ensure the unit is turned off and unplugged.
- Insert the nozzle of the can of compressed air into the front insertion slot, approximately ¼ inch, to blow away any accumulated debris inside the unit.
- Use a soft microfiber cloth to wipe away dust from both the front and back slots.
- Plug the unit back in and turn the machine on to reset it.
Important Note: Do not insert the nozzle more than ¼ inch into the unit, as it may damage the internal sensor mechanisms.
Cleaning Locations Overview:
Several factors can cause the Kolibri Bishop to fail in recognizing a genuine bill, such as:
- Incorrect insertion of the bill (wrong face or orientation)
- Bills that are overly wrinkled, creased, or worn
- Dropping or bumping the unit during use
- Sudden changes in temperature
- Extended periods of non-use
- Lack of maintenance or preventative cleaning
Kolibri recommends cleaning the unit at least once a week. For heavy-use locations, daily cleaning is advised to prevent debris buildup that may interfere with performance. When not in use, it’s suggested to cover the unit with a dust cover to protect it.
